My Favorite Book
Everyone has a favorite book that they cannot stop thinking about after they are done reading it, and my favorite book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The Kite Runner was written during the time when Russia was bombing Afghanistan. the story takes place in Afghanistan. It is about a young boys experience as a child during those times. Amir was part of a rich family, and he grew up without a mother. Amir did not have a close relationship with his father because his father wanted Amir to be athletic but he was interested in writing, unfortunately his father was not interested in reading. Amir never stood up for himself. Amir and his dad had servants who had lived with them since Amir was born. Hassan was the servants son, who was loved by Amir’s dad because he was the opposite of Amir; he was athletic, and he stood up for himself. Amir was envious of Hassan. He was too embarrassed to play with him in public but yet Hassan was a loyal friend to him. Hassan protected Amir from the town bully. Amir destroyed Hassans and his friendship, by accusing him of stealing in order to get Hassan and his father out of the house. Amir and Hassan ended up being half brothers. In order to gain forgiveness, Amir saved Hassan’s son from the Taliban and adopted him. The Kite Runner is my favorite book because I could not wait to go on to the next chapter, I was drawn into the book. it is a story based on humanity, friendship, evil, good, and sacrifice which are all universal themes that apply to all of us. Kite Runner had me thinking about the importance of friendship when Hassan sacrificed his pride and got raped in order to save Amir’s kite, yet Amir did not even try to protect Hassan as he watched him get raped. Hassan did not say a word when Amir accused him of stealing in order to get rid of Hassan. After all that Amir did, Hassan stayed loyal and sacrificed his life in order to protect Amir’s and his dads home from the Taliban this book made me realize that there are people who are so evil towards someone who does nothing but good to them till the end. There are friends who are willing to ruin their friend’s life out of jealousy and there are friends who are willing to sacrifice their life for a friend. Kite Runner had great suspense. It was a page turner because it contained life and death situations, for example when Amir and his dad were leaving Afghanistan during the war, or when Amir was trying to save Hassan’s son from the Taliban since Hassan was dead. Kite Runner touched the surface of every emotion we humans go through. One could not even predict what was going to happen next, and that is why it was my favorite.

This book was indeed an interesting and grasping book. It definitely catches ones attention while forcing them to continue reading due to all of the detail one wants to read. I loved this book as well, because of the moral lessons it had to teach as well as the action in the background.
ReplyDeleteAnna, I am in agreement with the fact that you chose this novel as your favorite book. It demonstrates many of the themes you mentioned in a very touching and emotional outlet. The constant suspense and the moments of holding my breath were limitless, as we, coming from Middle Eastern descent, are able to connect to the narrator's experience through the stories our parent's have shared about their own personal experience in war-zone countries. I am positive that many people, including me, agree with the two categories of friendship that exists in our society, and those in disagreement probably have not experienced the evil aspect of certain people.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very good book, but for me it did not make me think after. Once the story ended I was sort of done with the book. It made me think about the times that they were going through, but i would have loved if the author had actually described what happened during those times in vivid detail, and for a longer time throughout the story. But overall, it was a great book, and I enjoyed reading it because of the sense of honor that runs in the narrator's and his father's blood.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the fact that it is your favorite book and that it caught your attention,it is also my favorite. This novel is captivating, touching, and makes you always want to read more. It shows points of true friendship and that friends would either do everyhting in their power to help another friend out or they would do anyhting to hurt someone they know. This novel has touched every emotion one could have, whether it was happiness, sadness,or even anger in a few cases depending on what the characters have done.I can truly understand and appreciate why this would be your favorite book.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this was absolutely an amazing book which also made me wonder what would happen even after finishing the book. The fact that Amir's father would not acknowledge him as much, since he was not athletic and would favor Amir and Hassan equally caught my attention. It really teaches one about how important a friendship can be and what major damages it can cause.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very interesting book that kept you wondering what was going to possibly happen next. I agree, the themes were universal and can be implied to our daily lives. As a child grows up, they are faced with many conflicts pertaining to friendship. This book portrays all the aspects of a friendship that can either strengthen the bond or even destroy it. I understand why you chose this book; this book teaches the readers a lesson that will never be forgotten. Excellent choice, Annie!
ReplyDeleteThis too is one of my favorite books and especially because it shows the relationship between the two young boys and how it changes as they grow older. The universality of the novel also makes it more entertaining as well as easier to connect with. Thank you for showing your interest in such a great book.
ReplyDeleteKite Runner is a great book, and probably the best one we read last year. It really draws the reader into the relationship between both Amir and Hassan and Amir and his father. Also, the fact that the novel is based on true story just makes it seem more real. However, the book does end in a downcast, without the happy ending that every one was expecting.
