"Robert Jarell Neal Accused Of Stabbing Deaf Man After Confusing Sign Language With Gang Signs"
The article, "Robert Jarell Neal Accused Of Stabbing Deaf Man After Confusing Sign Language With Gang Signs", was written on January 11, 2013. Police in North Carolina reported that a deaf man was stabbed in North Carolina by another man because he was communicating with another deaf man and it was mistaken for gang signs. Robert Jarell Neal stabbed 45-year-old Terrance Ervin Daniels with a kitchen knife in the middle of his conversation. A neighbor reported the scene to the hospital and Daniels is in a stable condition at the UNC Hospitals. Robert Jarell Neal was arrested and charged for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill a handicapped person. This type of act is unacceptable because Neal stabbed a handicapped man who was simply communicating using sign language. Neal's temper resulted in an unfortunate situation due to a misunderstanding and lack of patience. Even if this man was throwing gang signs, Neal had no right to step in and commit such a crime. It is sad that a deaf man was punished in such a painful way for being deaf.

I truly believe that in this world there are people who do not think before their actions, and this article proves my point. It is sad that a deaf man, got stabbed for signing, and the man that stabbed him just assumed that the signs were gang signs. Even if he did assume that he had no right of stabbing an innocent man over an assumption, and I'm actually happy that he got what he deserved and was arrested. No one should go through something like that, get hurt for something you did not even do, I agree with you completely that the poor deaf man did not deserve that kind of treatment.
ReplyDeleteNeal acted before he thought therefore proving his impatience and ignorance. A deaf man getting stabbed for simply talking is truly saddening. The man is already handicap and cannot hear, yet he is stabbed for simply talking through sign language. Neal deserves to go to jail and be put away for a long time due to his irresponsibility and ignorance. The poor deaf man did not even see it coming!
ReplyDeleteIt is bad enough that the poor man is deaf, and to be stabbed for it just upsets me. Such a misunderstanding should have been avoided and that man should really control his temper. Even if he was throwing out gang signs, he should not just immediately stab the person, either way, it could have been avoided.
ReplyDeleteIn present day America, there are numerous people who have the tendency to hurt someone in any way for many reasons, ranging from bad temper to overreacting to misunderstanding anything. Neal should have thought before acting on the situation and committing a crime for stabbing an innocent man, who was only trying to communicate. He should not have even quickly assumed what was happening in the first place, because making assumptions always leads a person in the wrong direction. It was not Neal's job or priority to stab someone even if they may have intended to "throw gang signs". People should think before they act more often; it will save them from many fights and crimes and innocent people from almost dying.
ReplyDeleteThis is very upsetting news. The poor man was only trying to communicate, and for doing so, got himself stabbed. I agree with Talar's comment. People should not jump to conclusions and they should think about things as opposed to acting on impulse.
ReplyDeleteThis story has made me feel a great amount of sympathy for the deaf man. A man who was simply communicating with another individual had to experience multiple stabbings from a man who merely did not have the will power to restrain his emotions. The man should have not assumed that the deaf man was "throwing" gang signs. Also, this clearly shows the man's ignorance and lack of knowledge in gang signs. Consequently, if he was not sure of the deaf man's hand gestures to being with, then he should have not taken the initiative to stab the poor and guiltless victim. People need to realize that they must not undertake actions without thinking about it twice, because as it was evident in this scenario, the outcome is never pleasant.
ReplyDeleteNews like this just remind me of how corrupt society is. Neal let his temper overcome him and committed a crime that is unacceptable. Gang signs are huge especially in this country. Everyone around has such low self esteem that they think people do actions in order to offend one another. I liked the sentence where you stated that Daniels was punished just for being deaf. Although Neal did not know about this man being deaf, he should have gotten his facts straight before taking the next step. Daniels only knew of his sign language and communicating skills, instead he was "punished" for an unknown gesture he mistakingly did.
ReplyDeleteI cannot grasp the idea of a man with enough cruelty to kill any man. Weather there were supposed gang signs, or not, Robert Jarell Neal stabbed a man with the intention of killing him. Furthermore, Terrance Ervin Daniels is both deaf and innocent. He was living his life and using sign language to communicate. How can a man suddenly decide to stab another human? How can that thought pass through one's mind and escalate through irrational actions? The injustice that courses through society seems to take me by surprise, despite the frequency of such cases. I would never purposefully harm another man and therefore I cannot begin to fathom the mentality or unjust impulsive actions of any man or woman similar to Robert Jarell Neal.
